Aston Martin produces first powerboat

The British luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin, for decades the purveyor to the British secret agent "007", has joined the ranks of boat builders and, in cooperation with the Dutch shipyard Quintessence Yachts, has launched its first powerboat, the AM37, where AM stands for Aston Martin and 37 for the 37-foot length of the impressive powerboat.

The Aston Martin AM37 powerboat was first unveiled at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show on September 28, 2016. It is the first powerboat developed by Aston Martin and Quintessence Yachts. The AM37 combines the innovative design of the luxury car manufacturer with the expert knowledge of the yachting world. The new day cruiser is available in two versions, including the AM37S as a sporty variant that is said to glide across the water at over 50 knots (around 92 km/h).

Two years of intensive research and development are behind the AM37. The challenge was to meet the modern demands of boat owners and combine the best in innovative technology with bespoke craftsmanship. The AM37 was a true team effort. Aston Martin's most experienced designers worked to transfer their automotive experience to a boat and create a unique product.

Aston Martin's chief designer Marek Reichman and his design team worked closely with the boat's architect Mulder Design, paying meticulous attention to every detail of the project. Quintessence Yachts had the task of developing an innovative powerboat for the yachting world from Aston Martin's design specifications.

Reichman said of his work and the development of the new powerboat, "The AM37 is the pure translation of the Aston Martin DNA into a completely new, maritime concept. It reflects our values in beauty, power and soul. The most important feature is the design language. It was important to us that the design of the boat be like that of our automobiles, beautiful and timeless. The AM37 has magnificent proportions and elegance." The AM37 is a day cruiser that is also suitable for overnight stays once the table is converted into a bed. The cabin features mood lighting and air conditioning. With the built-in refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toilet on board, the greatest possible comfort has been provided. The rear bench seat, made of the finest leather, can accommodate 8 people.

The exterior of the AM37 impresses with dynamic proportions and its simple design. Every design element has been given full attention. The windshield was made from a single chiseled piece of glass artfully placed over the front deck. With its extreme double curvature, it sets a new industry standard. Sliding top technology allows boat owners to cover the boat's cockpit at the touch of a button. This is true luxury comfort. The electro-hydraulic carbon bimini top and floating platform by the rear deck are among the AM37's other amenities.

The AM37's carbon fiber instrument panel reflects the design of Aston Martin's most advanced sports cars. It combines the finest leader with functional elements such as the steering wheel or throttle in polished metal. The navigation, control monitor and entertainment system are all integrated and equipped with the most advanced multimedia functions.

Mariella Mengozzi, CEO of Quintessence Yachts, said, "It has been an exciting journey and we have enjoyed partnering with Aston Martin on such a special project that fuses craftsmanship with futuristic technology - the perfect blend for this unique powerboat. We took on the challenge to create a revolution on the water and an exceptional powerboat. I am delighted to present the AM37, a new way to experience life at sea."

The 37-foot model is available in two versions: the AM37 with an estimated 45 knots and a choice of two 370-hp Mercury diesel engines or two 430-hp gasoline engines, and the AM37S with an estimated 50 knots and a 520-hp twin gasoline engine.
