Frenchman Jordan Sarrou has been competing in cross country for several years, but he has yet to win a title. Winning has not been his strong point so far. Sure, Sarrou has always been good for a top 10 finish in the World Cup, but that's about it. How does someone like him become world champion? Certainly, there were a number of things that played a role here. On the one hand, Sarrou behaved tactically in a very clever way. Right at the beginning of the race, he and two of his compatriots started chasing the leader, suddenly pushed the pace and pulled away. We already know this tactic from Nino Schurter. Very quickly a chasing quartet formed including Flückiger, who took the silver medal in the end, Avancini and Carod, who took the bronze medal. But the group could not make up the gap of about a minute on Sarrou. The Frenchman had used the favor of the hour to pull away from everyone and save the lead to the finish. However, this was by no means a coincidence. The Frenchman also took the 2020 French championship title and rode to 6th and 15th place in the World Cup, but the world title, which earns 300 points, now lifts the Frenchman to 2nd place in the international rankings, where he would not be without this world title. He is not now known as a driver who would go on to win. Therefore, one must enter 2021 with a certain amount of caution and should not expect too much.
