But the real highlight of your Paznaun vacation is yet to come: the Silvretta - Bielerhöhe high altitude trail. This is a high mountain trail that promises cross-country skiers unforgettable views. The trail is quite demanding and is therefore recommended only for cross-country skiers with good technique and condition. The start of the cross-country skiing route is at the Galtür hamlet of Wirl. From there it leads further into the valley to the Silvretta reservoir. The way to get there is strenuous. When you arrive at the reservoir, however, all exertion is immediately forgotten. The incredible mountain panorama and the deep snow-covered mountain landscapes are admirable. This is a truly rare experience for cross-country skiers. The imposing, breathtaking mountain panoramas that can be seen far above are rather reserved for other mountain sports enthusiasts.
Cross-country skiers who still can't get enough after dark are in luck: In winter, when it gets dark early and you have almost no choice but to spend the evenings in the cozy parlor, you appreciate it all the more when you are also offered evening activities. The night cross-country ski run in Galtür is perfect for this. It is illuminated daily and thus offers extra long cross-country skiing pleasure. The route is 2.3 kilometers long and stretches from Galtür to Wirl. What is so wonderful about cross-country skiing in the evening is the atmosphere that is denied to you during the day. The high mountain landscape around Galtür is bathed in a very special light and the silence all around does the rest.
During a winter vacation in Paznaun you don't want to miss the famous Ischgl. Therefore, you should definitely try the Ischgl cross-country ski trail. For this you start at the trail entrance, which is located at the parking lot opposite the valley station of the Silvretta cable car. From there, the Ischgl cross-country ski trail runs west into the valley. After a good 2.5 kilometers there is a turning point. There you can change to the Mathon trail and continue gliding in a westerly direction. This leads through romantic clearings and past the Mathon wildlife park. After 2.5 kilometers there is another turning point on this trail. From here you can return to Ischgl in the opposite direction.
