Australian Open 2025: Jannik Sinner repeats his title win

Jannik Sinner repeated his title win from last year at the Australian Open 2025. He won in three sets against the German Alexander Zverev, 6:3, 7:6 and 6:3. But a thrilling final looks different.

Today, the world number one, Jannik Sinner (Italy), and the world number two, Alexander Zverev (Germany), faced each other in the men's final of the 2025 Australian Open. For the German, it was another chance to win his first Grand Slam tournament. For Jannik Sinner, it was about further consolidating his lead in the world rankings and winning his next Grand Slam tournament after the first Grand Slam trophies at the Australian Open in Melbourne and the US Open in New York in 2024. But somewhere there was a smell of boredom in the air, because both players are not delivering such inspiring final matches as we have been used to from the three great dominant players Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic over the last 20 years. Yes, spectators have been spoiled with the best tennis of the last 100 years over the last 20 years. The power, fascination, cleverness and inimitable shots of these three living legends have captivated the world. In comparison, today's game trickled along. Alexander Zverev is the hesitant and doubtful one who is constantly questioning himself and his chances of winning. He often gets in his own way. He always gets very far, but never quite makes it to the trophy. Jannik Sinner, on the other hand, is a bit more aggressive and self-confident, especially after his successful 2024 season. Baseline tennis peppered with drop shots, that's it really, nothing earth-shattering, that's what we saw today. Unfortunately, Zverev never manages to take advantage of his break chances, he always failed at the last moment. The second set is also typical of this, in which the German made it to the tie-break and failed there, but he could and should have sealed the deal beforehand and won the second set. Then there would have been fire in the final match. So Zverev stoically accepted his impending defeat. It was a shame and annoying for him, and all the easier for Sinner. After a really unexciting match, the Italian served to victory after just 2 hours and 42 minutes, winning 6:3, 7:6 and 6:3 - Sinner: Zverev. Another celebration for Sinner, another disappointment for Zverev. It's a shame, there was more in it for Zverev and the spectators, who deserved a more exciting duel.
