Andermatt: The second hotel with residences is being built

For the start of winter we have received the following, current news from Andermatt. First of all, Andermatt Swiss Alps proudly presents its newly submitted building application for the construction of the second hotel with public indoor swimming pool and attached residences. Furthermore, the construction of the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun will start in the near future.

A new hotel is being built
After a 1-year planning phase, Andermatt Swiss Alps AG has submitted its building application for the construction of the second hotel. On November 20, 2014, the building profiles were submitted, which shows the dimensions of this new building in the tourism region Andermatt. The new hotel will offer its guests around 180 rooms and suites, plus two restaurants, a hotel bar, an event and conference area and a fitness and wellness area open to the public with a sauna, steam bath, therapy rooms and a 25-meter indoor pool. Connected to the hotel is a separate part of the building comprising the "Gotthard Residences": These are 96 residences ranging from 45 m2 large studio up to 133 m2 large 4.5-room apartment in the price range between CHF 450,000.00 to CHF 2,000,000.00. The massive plinths are made of natural stone for the residence building and of bush-hammered concrete elements for the hotel building. The facades will be built of wood in various construction types. Care will be taken to use natural stone from the region and to use wood products and wood from Switzerland. The entire hotel project will be certified to the Minergie standard.

SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun is about to start construction work
After the planning and approval process was successfully completed in late summer 2014, detailed planning had to be carried out in order to meet the construction start date in spring 2015 and completion in winter 2017/18. In the process, weak points of the project were also encountered. One of these was the access to the valley station of the Nätschen-Gütsch gondola lift at Andermatt station. In order to prevent the guests of the future lift from being exposed to unnecessary dangers due to the cramped conditions, the valley station has now been relocated to the other side of the road during the detailed planning and the connection to the station has been ensured with two escalators directly from the passenger underpass. Construction work in the ski area will begin in spring 2015 with the Oberalp - Piz Calmut chairlift.

To date, in addition to the luxury hotel "The Chedi Andermatt", two apartment buildings, a new football pitch and the new golf course have been built, representing an investment of CHF 457 million. This also includes the project work for the second hotel and the SkiArena. The other two apartment buildings "Biber" and "Gemse" with 40 apartments as well as the clubhouse of the golf course and the Chedi Residences are under construction and will be completed in 2015. Step by step it is now becoming clear how gigantic, courageous, innovative and progressive the idea and the realization of this resort is for Andermatt and Switzerland.
