The Swiss Sailing Promotion League defies wind, snow & freezing cold

Adverse weather, even for the time of year, awaited the sailors of the first Swiss Sailing Promotion League race last weekend (May 4/5, 2019) on Lake Lucerne. Temperatures between -1 and 10 degrees Celsius, which felt much icier on the lake thanks to shifting winds, made for downright wintry conditions. But the sailors of the 12 Promotion League clubs defied the freezing rain, the snowfall and the turbulent wind changes and knew how to adapt to the difficult situation.

The Yacht Club Lucerne (YCL) dominated the competition weekend. With four race wins and a 2nd place (total 6 points) the YCL with Brice Baizez as tactician succeeded in an excellent start into the new season. The team of the CVE Cercle de la Voile d'Estavayer sailed just as consistently well in the changing wind conditions, with Vincent Denervaud steering the club to 2nd place (total 8 points). The team of the BSC Basler Segel Club left a solid impression, which lifted itself to 3rd place thanks to a good preparation for the season. Due to inconsistent racing, the league newcomer from Villeneuve (CVVi) placed 4th with 15 total points, tied with the team from SCMd from Männedorf. The other teams fought for every rank.

The next event of the Promotion League will take place from 20-22 September 2019 in Spiez on Lake Thun. There it's about the promotion to the Challenge League (2nd league).
