Sella Ronda: Sunny ski carousel

26 kilometers of slopes, four ski areas and valleys, three provinces: This is the Sellaronda in the Dolomites, which is considered the ancestor of all ski circuits. Since this winter, skiers and snowboarders can set off even faster from Selva Gardena to circumnavigate the gigantic Sella massif via the rebuilt Dantercepies cable car. But also in the other ski resorts on the Sellaronda it is still possible to get on the ski circuit - and often cheaper and faster.

Selva Gardena, the highest village of the three municipalities in the Val Gardena valley, is the most famous and also the most popular entry point to the Sella Ronda. From here, skiers can enter the Sellaronda ski circuit in both directions, which takes about four to five hours: Either clockwise (orange) or counterclockwise (green). To circumnavigate the legendary Sella massif, which rises to 3,151 meters, you should in any case take your time and leave in time to return in time with one of the last lifts in the afternoon. With Grödnerjoch, Sellajoch, Pordoijoch and Campognolo Pass some spectacular passes are overcome on the ski circuit. The tour starts at ten o'clock at the latest, because after all you want to enjoy the panorama of the Dolomites, which Reinhold Messmer once described as "the most beautiful mountains in the world", warm up on the way and take a break at least once at one of the many tempting ski huts on the ski circuit. It is also delightful to extend the Sellaronda with one of the most beautiful slopes on the route - such as the challenging Porta Vescovo run in Arabba, the Marmolada or the Edelweißtal in Colfosco.

Three provinces at one stroke
Three Italian provinces are connected on the Sellaronda ski circuit - South Tyrol, Trentino and Belluno. And each seduces skiers and snowboarders with its own regional delicacies and ever-popular delicacies.

Everywhere you can get a cheap and brilliant Italian cappuccino, and if you don't order wheat beer from Bavaria, you can get away cheaply everywhere. Particularly recommended are the Rifugio Salei in Canazei (at 2,225 meters), if only because directly behind it the mighty jags of the Sassolungo tower into the sky, and the Rifugio Emilio Comici in Selva Gardena (at 2,145 meters), which after an exhausting day of skiing offers real gourmet cuisine up to exquisite seven-course menus.

300 sunny days a year
If you want to go around the Sella massif, you should not only start early, but also choose a day with good weather. With about 300 days of sunshine a year, this is not difficult here. The views of the mighty Dolomite peaks such as Sassolungo (3,181 m) and Marmolada (3,343 m) are unforgettable when the visibility is good. This, of course, attracts winter vacationers from everywhere. On nice days, up to 14,000 skiers are on the popular ski circuit. In the afternoon, despite all the photo breaks, it is important to be careful to reach the last lift at dusk, because from 5:00 p.m. the Sellaronda is closed. In the evening, after a perfect day of skiing, tired Sellarondisti like to recover from the exertions of the ski circuit at the bar "La Stua" in Val Gardena with a freshly tapped beer, après ski and live music.

Sellaronda for thrifty
Hardly anyone will book a week's ski vacation in the Dolomites and ski the Sellaronda every day without their thighs burning at some point. Many therefore ask themselves the question: is it worth buying the Dolomiti Superski ski pass for all days, or is it cheaper to buy the Dolomiti Superski ski pass for one day only, and for the other days buy the ski pass of one of the four ski areas on the Sellaronda (Val Gardena-Gröden,...
