Lenzerheide: Bike adventure in the heart of Graubünden

We had already read a lot of good things about the Swiss bike region of Lenzerheide. It is supposed to be an absolute Eldorado for mountain bikers and, what gives a passionate mountain biker a very special tingle through the legs: every path there is a bike trail! The vision of literally unlimited biking fun naturally increased our anticipation of the Swiss mountain bike adventure many times over. And 300 km of signposted tours or over 850 km of GPS tours confirm this mountain biker's dream, for which we two female mountain bikers were more than ready!

Already upon arrival in Lenzerheide we were greeted by glorious mountain bike weather and a breathtaking mountain panorama and it was immediately clear: still today we had to swing on the saddle to explore at least a few kilometers of this impressive landscape on two wheels. We loaded our luggage into the cozy room of the Mountain Bike Holidays Hotels Collinawhich, with its excellent food, wellness area and excellent bike services, would still be a perfect base station for our mountain bike discoveries in the coming days.

Since it was now almost noon, we decided to postpone the "real" mountain bike tour to the next day. Because one thing is clear: in dream weather, with so much impressive nature and the actually seemingly endless tour network you want to leave yourself of course a lot of time on his Tours. Instead, however, we heard for today already call the new Bikepark Lenzerheide - a call that we followed of course on the spot.

The Lenzerheide Bike Park was created in the summer of 2013 and 2014. This is a bike park that offers all bikers - from beginners to families to professionals - a varied "playground". Five routes in all levels of difficulty are available here - from the simple FLOWline up to the world cup track STRAIGHTline. Here is certainly something for everyone!

Arrived at the bike park, a cable car transported us to the start of the trails and for the first day we dared to the blue marked (there are still red and black) FLOWline approach. This is a route in the less steep terrain with just a lot of "flow", curves and also small jumps - so ideal for beginners or small rabbit feet like us. But of course the FLOWline is also a lot of fun. The flow of the course allows you to really step on the gas and with the ground under your lugged tires and the trees rattling by on your right and left, you pour out enough adrenaline to feel ready for the STRAIGHTline World Cup course when you reach the bottom.

After the bike park action, we finished the first day at the hotel with a delicious dinner and could hardly wait for the next day, as we had been recommended our first tour from the huge range of trails in Lenzerheide by the host and bike guide Fritz. It was to be the "Alter Schyn" tour. What sounded exciting and unusual, put us already in excitement - who was this "old Schyn"? And what did he have to offer?

After a relaxing night and a hearty biker breakfast, we set off early the next day. The 60-kilometer tour to the Albula Gorge was waiting for us. A little endurance is required on the day tour, but we were told that the technical difficulties are limited.

Incidentally, this tour gets its name from the descent on the "Old Schyn", a road cut into the steep mountain flank high above the Albula Gorge. Via small picturesque villages you then reach the partly dizzying trade roads from the Middle Ages. Not only something for the heart and calves, but definitely also something for the eye!

Through spectacular rock tunnels, the tour then leads down into the valley. With natural soil under the tires and the smell of earth and damp undergrowth in the nose, we let ourselves down the descents with a lot of heart. We enjoyed the passage along the Schyn Gorge the most, both scenically and in terms of riding technique. On the way, many different inns also invite you to take a breather, in which we of course also treated ourselves to one or the other - after all, we are on vacation!

Back at the Hotel Collina we were exhausted, but also very happy about so much sweat, adrenaline and worth seeing spots that we were allowed to explore today with our mountain bikes. Highlights of this tour for us were definitely the ride through the old Schyn and the ride through Domleschg, the valley of castles.

We are already very much looking forward to a next time in Lenzerheide - four unridden routes in the bike park and numerous trails through the bike region definitely still want to be ridden and explored by us!
