Lewis Hamilton secured his first victory for Ferrari at the Spanish Grand Prix. This broke Mercedes' dominance in the 2026 season and saw him finish well ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc for the first time.
For all Ferrari fans, last weekend was a weekend of celebration. For the first time since 2024, Ferrari won a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton crossed the finish line first in Barcelona for the first time in a Ferrari. The spell was broken: he can now win a Formula 1 Grand Prix with Ferrari.
But a long dry spell lies behind the 41-year-old Briton and seven-time Formula 1 World Champion. He joined Ferrari last year, and expectations were high, but he couldn't live up to them. Lewis Hamilton didn't manage a single podium finish in 2025, ending the season in sixth place in the world standings with 156 points, behind his teammate, who was fifth with 242 points. But this year, the spell seems to be broken, the perpetual runner-up in the team. This season, Charles Leclerc is behind him, and Hamilton also secured Ferrari's first victory of 2026.
The race in Barcelona was decided between Mercedes and Ferrari. The switch to medium (yellow) tires clearly secured the victory for Lewis Hamilton, as he was significantly faster than his rivals and gained crucial seconds on the Mercedes drivers. In the end, Lewis crossed the finish line with a lead of over 19 seconds. This puts him in second place in the standings, leaving his teammate Leclerc far behind and opening up a whole new perspective for Ferrari in 2026. The next race is in Austria in two weeks. Then we'll see what effect this victory has had on the Ferrari team.
