Glashütte Original presents the Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition in "Purple." Its dial features a color motif that has inspired album covers, band names, and song titles that have made music history since the 1960s – a rich purple hue, subtly textured. The automatic in-house caliber 39-34 provides the rhythm. Its quiet ticking serves as a constant reminder that while the Annual Edition is rooted in the 1960s, its beat is decidedly contemporary.
A mix that brings color into play
The Sixties Chronograph plays by its own rules. It effortlessly blends elements from different decades, styles, and materials into a unique mix. The result: a fresh, individual look that reinterprets vintage style. For the 2026 edition, Glashütte Original's in-house dial manufactory created the vibrant violet hue "Purple." Each individual dial is the result of an elaborate manufacturing process requiring dozens of manual steps, considerable time, and years of artisanal expertise.
Making-of: a dial in “purple”
Thin strips of bronze form the basis for the violet dial of the Sixties Chronograph. These are first given a fine texture using a stamping die before the dial blank is stamped and drilled with tiny holes. The characteristic record-like pattern is then created when the subdials are turned: fine, parallel grooves reminiscent of vinyl records. The dial is carefully domed and electroplated with yellow gold. Next comes the color: the translucent violet lacquer is applied by hand and then fired in an oven. Unlike conventional dials, the indices on the Sixties Chronograph are not applied or printed, but rather manually cut into the domed and lacquered surface. This reveals the dial's base material: warm, shimmering bronze. The entire surface is then coated with a protective clear lacquer. In several stages, the numerals and logo are printed and fired in an oven before a steady hand finally applies the luminous dots to the indices.
A skillful production
A dial with such artistic qualities demands a worthy setting. This grand entrance is guaranteed by a polished 42 mm stainless steel case: its double anti-reflective, slightly domed sapphire crystal reduces light reflection and offers a clear view of the dial. The long, gold-plated hands follow the curvature of the crystal, ensuring that the time can always be read precisely and without optical distortion when viewed from above; a task they also accomplish in the dark thanks to Super-LumiNova®. The easy-grip stainless steel crown is adorned with the typical Glashütte Original double-G symbol. The same symbol is also found on the case back: a sapphire crystal case back reveals the skeletonized rotor with its double-G symbol and 21-karat gold oscillating weight. A breathable black textile strap completes the watch's casual character.
A steady rhythm
At the heart of the watch, the automatic caliber 39-34 ensures precise timekeeping. It reliably powers the hour, minute, and small seconds displays, as well as the stop-seconds and the 30-minute counter of the chronograph at 9 o'clock. Numerous components and finishes attest to its heritage: the three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing, the graceful swan-neck fine adjustment, the beveled edges, and the small polished screws. All of these can be admired through the transparent case back.
The Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition in "Purple" pays tribute to a color that has exerted an almost magical influence on music of all genres for decades. It will be available from May 2026 in Glashütte Original boutiques worldwide and at selected retailers.
