Surfer Erin Brooks wins her second consecutive title at the Fiji Pro

Surfer Erin Brooks secured her second consecutive title at the Fiji Pro after scoring a perfect 10 in her heat. The Canadian eliminated former world champions, while Leonardo Fioravanti and Griffin Colapinto reached the semifinals of the men's World Surf League.

Erin Brooks followed up her Tahiti Pro victory with another title at the Fiji Pro event on the world-famous Cloudbreak. This solidified her rise into the top 10 of the 2026 World Surf League (WSL) rankings, while Leonardo Fioravanti and Griffin Colapinto reached the semifinals in the men's competition.

Canadian Erin Brooks celebrated her first victory on the Championship Tour (CT) in mid-August, making a strong start in Fiji to give her competitors pause for thought. In her first heat against Australian Sophie McCulloch, she received the maximum score of 10 points from the judges and advanced confidently to the bracket section. There, she prevailed 10.83 to 6 against the 2023 world champion and reigning Olympic champion Caroline Marks of the USA – thanks to a superb 7.83-point wave.

Her quarterfinal against France's Vahine Fierro was much closer. Thanks to another strong start, she prevailed 11.10 to 10.67. Five-time world champion Carissa Moore also had no luck in the semifinals, as Brooks kept her composure and secured her place in the final with a 7.67-point run in the closing stages. On the other side of the bracket, reigning world champion Molly Picklum was eliminated in the second round. Her compatriot Isabella Nichols battled her way through her opponents, but had to miss the final after suffering an ankle injury during her nerve-wracking semifinal victory against Costa Rica's Brisa Hennessy.

This is Brooks' second victory at the Fiji Pro, following her first win in 2024 as the first Canadian to triumph with a wildcard entry. The victory propels her three places to eighth in the 2026 CT rankings.

Brooks said: “I feel absolutely fantastic! The last two events have been insane. I still can’t believe I’ve won two in a row. It seemed impossible at the beginning of the year, but now I’m overjoyed. I feel really sorry for Isabella. I love her like a sister and would have loved to be in the final with her.”

When asked what enabled her to achieve this form, she added: “Winning in Tahiti took so much pressure off and allowed me to surf the way I wanted to. I had the best heat of my life and scored a perfect 10. I’m really looking forward to Lowers. I love it there and have a lot of friends and family, so it’s going to be great.”

The men's event was another impressive performance from Fioravanti and Colapinto, following early exits from Australian Jarvis Earle, Brazilian Joao Chianca, American Eli Hanneman and Australian Jack Robinson.

The in-form Brazilian Ítalo Ferreira and the Japanese player Kanoa Igarashi were the next to be eliminated in round 3. The Italian Fioravanti prevailed in the quarterfinals against the Australian Callum Robson with a score of 14.10 to 10.94, while the Frenchman Kauli Vaast lost to the Brazilian Gabriel Medina with a score of 7.33 to 15.66. The American Colapinto entered his semifinal against Gabriel Medina with momentum after impressive victories over the Indonesian Rio Waida, the Brazilian Samuel Pupo, and the Japanese player Connor O’Leary. However, he found no answer to the Brazilian's brilliant semifinal performance, which earned Medina scores of 9.77 and 9.27 from the judges, among others.

Fioravanti was unable to repeat his victory at the Surf City El Salvador Pro earlier in the season. He suffered a decisive defeat in the semifinals against American Cole Houshmand, but then won his third WSL title in a thrilling final against Medina. Colapinto moves up two places to sixth overall, while Fioravanti remains in second place behind Ferreira ahead of the Lexus Trestles Pro stop, which takes place from September 11th to 20th.
