Nino Schurter: Impressive road debut

After it became known last year that the Swiss mountain bike pro wanted to try his hand at racing on the road and would take part in both the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de Suisse, one could be curious to see how the native of Graubünden would fare among the cyclists. And the results are indeed impressive, as he left quite a few stars behind him in some stages. Particularly outstanding are the 2nd stage of the Tour de Suisse, which he finished in eighth place, and the 5th stage of the Tour de Suisse, which he finished in 9th place. He left cycling stars such as Bradley Wiggins, Cadel Evans, world champion Rui da Costa and Tony Martin behind him. With the 42nd overall place at the Tour de Romandie and the 53rd final place at the Tour de Suisse he has ridden himself into the front third of a field of about 150 riders. For a short time he even led the 3rd stage of the Tour de Suisse as a breakaway. In addition, he delivered various podium finishes in mountain biking. Chapeau! You wouldn't necessarily have expected that from Nino Schurter either, even if the ambitious man from Graubünden is probably not yet completely satisfied with the final results. The highlight of the year, however, was probably his marriage a week later.
