K2 Konic, 2017/18

K2 iKonic/Konic

The Konic/iKonic models have been massively revised for this winter: The shape has been revised, in particular the shovels have become much wider, the models up to 80 mm medium width have received the new Exo Konic structure in the binding area and the two highest quality models have been equipped with 35% more metal inserts. What has remained the same is the Konic technology, the special design of the ski core, which is lighter in the middle of the ski and denser and heavier on the outer sides, improving stability, control and power transmission in the turn and improving turn initiation due to the lighter ski center. The models are now even more grippy, nippy and stronger.

Due to the intensive revision, 5 models are new: the iKonic 85 Ti, Konic 78 Ti and Konic 76 models have been replaced, and the iKonic 80/80 Ti models have been completely revised. Currently, there are now 4 iKonic models (with wood core) versus 2 Konic models (with composite core). The iKonic models are due to their construction and especially their mass because strongly in the all-mountain area, the two narrower composite models more tailored to the piste.

K2 ski technology

Konic technology

K2 has developed a completely new ski core concept with the new Konic technology. A dense core is installed on the sides of the ski, while a lightweight core is used in the middle of the ski. This improves edge grip, stability and power transmission when swinging in the area of the edges and reduces swing weight in the middle, making it easier to swing. Refined!

Triaxial Braiding

Triaxial Braiding was developed by K2 in 1988 and is still considered the best process for joining fiberglass to a wood core. In this process, a pre-treated wood core is passed through a patented Triaxial Braiding machine, which wraps it with pre-braided fiberglass strands. This unique method produces skis with perfectly tuned torsional stiffness, and a forgiving character, without sacrificing the dynamics and lively flex of the wood core

Metal laminate

The ski has a lightweight titanium alloy that runs along the entire length of the ski above and below the core. Only the highest quality ski models from K2 are equipped with this most complex structure. Starting from the base, this construction consists of alternating layers of fiberglass and titanium wrapped around the wood core. Metal laminate provides superior damping, stability, torsional stiffness and precise and uncompromising performance for sporty all-mountain skiers.

All terrain rocker

As the name suggests, this type of rocker from K2 stands for use in all types of terrain. The All-Terrain Rocker™ has a slightly raised shovel for optimum performance in variable and soft snow and enough preload under the binding for plenty of precision and edge grip on icy slopes and hard snow.

Cap construction

"Cap" skis are manufactured using a sophisticated compression molding method in which the top layer of the ski envelops the core and internal materials. Cap skis are basically very durable and lightweight, which is why this technology is used in all series. Depending on the composition of the core material layers result in the different riding characteristics of each model.

Hybritech sidewall

Hybritech is the unique combination of a sidewall and a cap construction. It combines the precision, power and performance of a sidewall under the binding with the lightness and smooth turn initiation of a cap construction.

TwinTech sidewalls

A durable sidewall construction typically used on TwinTip skis that makes the ski durable and protects the topsheet from damage.

Carbon Spyne

The 35% stronger, new titanium insert runs over the entire surface in the middle area of the ski, but towards both ski ends only on the outer sides like a fork. A carbon insert is inserted into the gap of the fork (rear and front) in each case. It increases the power and responsiveness of the ski.

Exo Konic

Under the binding area is the new Exo Konic structure. The Exo-Konic structure is made of nano-composite and dampens unevenness of the terrain and therefore contributes to the best ride comfort in all snow conditions.
