Alfa Romeo Stradale 33: The Rebirth of a Legend

The Alfa Romeo Stradale 33 of 1967 was considered the most beautiful coupé and one of the most beautiful automobiles of its time. The "new" Alfa Romeo Stradale 33 builds on this legacy and is a tribute to the supercar of yesteryear. Its design remains unique and incomparable.

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, upon its market launch in 1967, was one of the world's first super sports cars and the fastest commercially available car. With it, Alfa Romeo made automotive history. Only 18 examples were produced between 1967 and 1969. The Stradale was essentially a further development of the Tipo 33 sports prototype and was designed by Franco Scaglione. It was built by Carrozzeria Marazzi and made its debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 5, 1967. Collectors today offer up to €20 million for these models!

Given this price range, the purchase price of the new edition, around 2.5–3.0 million euros, is practically a bargain, at least for multimillionaires and billionaires. Those on average incomes will therefore never be able to drive such a magnificent model, which is individually built to customer specifications. Alfa Romeo limited production to 33 units, which are already completely sold out. There are clearly far too many millionaires in the world. With the Stradale 33, Alfa Romeo is entering the league of exclusive supercar manufacturers for the first time, a league usually occupied by brands like Bugatti, Koenigsegg, and Pagani.

But it's not just the design of the Stradale 33 that impresses; its technical performance figures are equally remarkable. The gasoline version, powered by a 3-liter V6 engine, develops a remarkable 620 hp at 7,500 rpm and delivers its maximum torque of 730 Nm to the road between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm. With a top speed of 333 km/h, the Alfa can easily compete with any Ferrari or Lamborghini. The electric version offers an even more impressive 750 hp, but is significantly heavier – 2.1 tons compared to the gasoline version's 1.5 tons – yet it accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, considerably faster than the gasoline version's 3.0 seconds. The gasoline version is equipped with rear-wheel drive, while the electric car features all-wheel drive.

The new Alfa Romeo Stradale 33 boasts several new developments. Notable among these are the new "butterfly doors," which open upwards, unlike previous gullwing doors that opened forwards. A significant advantage is the considerably easier entry, as part of the roof tilts away. This novelty is, of course, a real head-turner. The massive grille is also striking. But beyond the spectacular exterior, the purist interior design is equally impressive. The overhead gearshift knobs, in particular, which allow the driver to operate the controls like a pilot in an aircraft—a nod to Alfa Romeo's aircraft manufacturing heritage—are a truly unique design feature.

With the Stradale 33, Alfa Romeo has achieved a remarkable feat in 2023/24, once again elevating itself to the ranks of the world's best car manufacturers. Each of the 33 models will be a unique work of art, tailored to the individual customer. Those who find themselves in Monaco or other affluent destinations have a good chance of spotting one of these rare and exquisite vehicles.
