US Open 2023: Djokovic wins his 24th Grand Slam title

Novak Djokovic wins the US Open 2023 and takes his 24th Grand Slam title: New record! He defeats the Russian Daniil Medvedev in just three sets in a match that he clearly dominates.

After Daniil Medvedev's tough and determined performance in the previous final rounds, one should have expected a tough clash between him and Novak Djokovic. But this tenacity, which the Russian had just shown in the semifinals and quarterfinals, somehow seemed to have evaporated. Of course, you can't compare his opponents before with Djokovic either, but you could get the impression that the last bite was missing. Djokovic, on the other hand, played his usual precision tennis and tricked Medvedev now and then with skillful stop balls. But frankly, I had expected a fiercer battle and a tougher fight for the trophy. Of course, Medvedev certainly gave his best, which was expressed in the second set when he reached the tie-break, but he should have won it if he wanted to have a chance to win the title. But it was the other way around. Djokovic also won the second set in the tie-break and then the matter was slowly but surely settled. In a clear three-set victory (3:6, 6:7, 3:6), the Serb defeated the Russian and thus lifted the trophy in Flushing Meadows for the fourth time. With this victory, he also sets a new record with 24 Grand Slam titles won.
