The Red Bull Cerro Abajo is coming on the 5th/6th. September to Stuttgart

An extraordinary sporting event will celebrate its German premiere in Stuttgart. At "Red Bull Cerro Abajo," the world's elite mountain bikers will follow a unique course through the state capital for their high-speed downhill race next weekend, September 5th and 6th, 2026.

To crown the world champion in urban downhill, the organizers equip existing paths in parks and urban canyons with artificial obstacles and chicanes – and connect these with breathtaking shortcuts that only professionals can master: They jump off bridges, cross streets in mid-air and race down steps.

Therefore, not only do top athletes need to familiarize themselves with the very special race track, but there are also a few things Stuttgart residents should be aware of. The city administration has compiled tips for those who want to watch the spectacle – and traffic information for everyone who will be in Stuttgart this weekend.

WORLD ELITE IN THE CAULDRON

On September 6th, 35 top international riders will take to the starting line to compete against each other in exciting individual races. Before the final, Roger Vieira (BRA) leads the overall standings, closely followed by Sebastián Holguín (COL) and Johannes Fischbach (GER). Behind them, top athletes like Felipe Agurto (CHI) and Adrien Loron (FRA) are waiting for their chance to make a final push in the season's closing stages. They will be joined by established stars like Tomáš Slavík (CZE), who are all aiming to win the race through the Stuttgart basin.

TRACK BETWEEN OLD BUILDING AND ADRENALINE

Athletes and spectators alike can look forward to a particularly challenging city course design for the final. In addition to Stuttgart's typical staircases, numerous demanding obstacles and features built specifically for the race characterize the huge action zone in the heart of the city. These include challenging elements such as the "Big Drop Gate," a "Road Gap," the "Jeep Compass Gap," and the "Bosch Booster."

The spectacular course begins at the Weißenburgpark viewpoint overlooking the city. Right at the start, athletes are greeted by two historical highlights: the teahouse in its characteristic Art Nouveau style and the Marble Hall in Weißenburgpark. The track then leads across the Weißenburg Bridge, past the idyllic Bopser Fountain, and through the verdant Carola Blume Park. Via Mozartplatz, the athletes enter the narrow streets of the historic Heusteig district, whose charming old buildings and vibrant atmosphere create a unique course experience. Finally, the riders reach Wilhelmsplatz, where they receive a fitting welcome from the crowd of spectators at the finish line.
