Next weekend's Formula 1 race has to be cancelled - Italy is drowning in the floods and with it the Formula 1 Park. Now it's a matter of salvaging what you can and transporting it to Monaco.
For some time now, Italy has been struggling with drought, with river levels that are too low and with severe crop failures. Last summer, the country suffered from a severe drought. This winter and spring, too, the water levels of quite a few lakes and rivers were exceptionally low. Now, suddenly, the flood comes and the country drowns in the never-ending rains. This is not surprising, because the parched soils are no longer able to absorb so much water at once. The floods are therefore also a consequence of Italy's ongoing drought. The Emilia-Romagna region has been particularly hard hit. So far, 8 people have fallen victim to the massive flooding. It is a real tragedy.
Under these circumstances, a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Emilia-Romagna, which should have taken place next weekend, is not even a dream. No chance! Already on Monday, the government asked those responsible for Formula 1 to leave the region. The tents of the Formula 1 and their trucks stand on a flooded area. Here it is necessary to save what there is to save. The cars, the equipment and the trucks must now be removed to make the journey to Monaco to prepare for the next Grand Prix, which will take place just one week later, from May 26-28, 2023. All fans of Formula 1 who were looking forward to a race in Imola are really going down the drain with these wishes. The race will be cancelled without replacement. A cancellation of a Formula 1 race due to a natural disaster is a real novelty, there has never been anything like it.
