Valverde double

After his victory at the Walloon Arrow, Alejandro Valverde of Team Movistar doubled up today at the Belgian one-day classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège with his second win in a row. The race, which took place in damp conditions, occasionally gave the riders some trouble. As with the last race, there was a heavy mass crash today, with quite a few riders effectively "going down". In the end, strong favorites such as Rui da Costa, Joaquim Rodriguez or Alejandro Valverde had broken away in a small leading field. In the end, Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) won ahead of Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quick Step) and his compatriot Joaquim Rodriguez (Team Katusha) in 6 hours 14 minutes and 20 seconds.
