After his victory at the Walloon Arrow, Alejandro Valverde of Team Movistar doubled up today at the Belgian one-day classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège with his second win in a row. The race, which took place in damp conditions, occasionally gave the riders some trouble. As with the last race, there was a heavy mass crash today, with quite a few riders effectively "going down". In the end, strong favorites such as Rui da Costa, Joaquim Rodriguez or Alejandro Valverde had broken away in a small leading field. On the final sprint, Valverde was able to unleash extra power once again, as he did in the Walloon Arrow, and pull away from his opponents. In the end, Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) won ahead of Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quick Step) and his compatriot Joaquim Rodriguez (Team Katusha) in 6 hours 14 minutes and 20 seconds.
