For the first time anno 2019, the masts of the Swiss Sailing League crossed with the first race of the Challenge League, held in Lugano on April 27-28, 2019. In glorious sailing weather, the 12 clubs of the Challenge League were allowed to compete with each other. As usual, Lugano offered a fantastic backdrop, in front of which 18 hard-fought races were held during the two days of competition. The home team of Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano, led by Zeno Fry, finished in eighth place. On the top step of the podium was the Zurich Yacht Club (ZYC), followed by the all-female Sailors' Association of Thalwil (SVT). The sailors of the Cercle de la Voile de Neuchâtel (CVN) made it to third place.

Swiss Sailing League
The Swiss Sailing League is a relatively young league, having only existed for 3 years. It consists of the top league, the Super League, the middle league, the Challenge League, and the lowest league, the Promotion League. A total of 9 races are held, which decide whether one is promoted, relegated or remains in the league. The 9 races consist of 4 races of the Super League, 3 races of the Challenge League and 2 races of the Promotion League. The idea to popularize sailing in Switzerland with a national league race is spot on. For non-sailors, traditional competition events based on different boat classes are often a closed book. This new Swiss Sailing League makes the sport of sailing accessible to non-experts thanks to its easy-to-understand competition mode. www.swiss-sailing-league.ch.
