The rebound of the EHC Kloten

ImageThe score for EHC Kloten opened in the 36th minute of the game 88 Dario Meyer. He shoots the Zurich Unterlanders 1:0 in front. (Kloten, Switzerland, 22.10.2022)

No sooner had the season started again than there was the smell of crisis and hangover in the catacombs of Kloten. The club, which has not been able to get out of the negative headlines for years, seemed to pick up where it left off. But lo and behold, for a short time the promoted team has been shining with unheard-of victories. Is this a resurgence of the second Zurich club?

Nothing is more boring than when you, as a spectator, already know at the beginning of the competition how it will end. If that's the case, you can forget about watching. We know this all too well from Formula 1. How long did we have to watch, weekend after weekend, how the same team with the same driver drove away from all the other drivers and teams. But thank God for Swiss ice hockey, above all the National League! To make predictions here is simply an impossibility or who would have expected before the season that the table now looks like it does right now with Geneva at the top for weeks, followed by the Lakers, who were actually usually found in the back field, and the small Biel, which shows the big Bern the long nose.

And who actually believed in the Kloteners? After their relegation to the lower (second) division, the Swiss League, and their re-promotion to the top league, no one probably had great expectations of the club, only the preservation of the league will probably have been the goal. But the start of the season was not so rosy. Right at the beginning there was a real punch in the mouth, the 7:0 of Davos was really ugly and only the 9:1 against Fribourg ouch, that really hurt! Such special performances sped the team immediately once to the end of the table. Immediately, there was also a spat in the management. Once again - as always in a crisis - everyone had different ideas about how things should be done, and fantasies of the club's eternal demise were already bubbling up. My face! Can we do better?

But now the Kloteners seem to have had enough and are rearing up. For a good two weeks, they probably want to show the world what they are really made of. The win against the Tigers was a first flicker. The win against Ajoie reinforced the winning spirit. But now they really got going and defeated the overpowering ZSC and thus one of the leading clubs, followed by a clear victory against the always strong Bern. And now they follow it up with an impressive win against HCD, proving that they have arrived in the season as a serious opponent. That's really the great and exciting thing about ice hockey: Big names don't mean anything, only the performance counts and here really anyone can win. That's exactly why the standings change endlessly and who wants to say today which team will take which place tomorrow? Pure suspense! It can go on like this.

Tonight it's again against Fribourg. A revenge for the 9:1 ignominy from September is probably announced. Today, Kloten could turn history around, if the Kloteners don't think about the past defeat, but about the recent victories. Eric Faille, 27, Arttu Ruotsalainen, 25, Axel Simic, 28, Dario Meyer, 88, and the rest of the team will have to put in another effort to make sure the winning spell is not broken now. Hey Klotener, what is actually the goal of the season?
