Burton's new CEO is John Lacy

Innsbruck (February 20, 2020) - Burton announces that John Lacy will become CEO of the company - a role he has shared with Burton owner Donna Carpenter for the past 18 months. Donna will become chair of Burton's board of directors, the position previously held by her late husband and Burton founder Jake Burton Carpenter.

"John has earned the trust of Jake, me, our sons and our Board of Directors to lead Burton as CEO," said Donna Carpenter, owner and chair of Burton's Board of Directors. "This promotion is well-deserved and a milestone Jake and I have been planning for some time. To be promoted to CEO, we tasked John several years ago with surrounding himself with a strong group of leaders, strengthening our brand and culture, focusing on our strategic direction and delivering solid financial performance. John rose to the challenge and fully met our expectations, consistently making our company stronger since John became first President, then Co-CEO."

In 1997, John Lacy began his career at Burton answering calls in customer service. From then on, he worked in nearly every area of the company: from customer service to product development and into sales, to leadership positions in the product departments. According to Donna, John always wanted to lead the company and proved his leadership skills in every job he took. When John was promoted from Chief Product Officer to President in 2016, he navigated Burton through a volatile retail landscape by strengthening the company's direct-to-consumer focus. In late 2018, John became co-CEO, sharing that role with Donna. Together, John and Donna proved to be a strong leadership team, exceeding the company's financial goals over the next two years by increasing sales, reducing inventory and expanding direct-to-consumer initiatives.

Even with John taking over the CEO position, Donna will continue to be closely involved with the company as owner and Chair of the Board of Directors. Her primary focus will be on continuing Jake's legacy by working specifically to protect and develop the sport of snowboarding. Along with her three sons, Donna will continue to play a large role in preserving and growing the projects that were most important to Jake - including Mine77, the product collection Jake launched in December 2018. Donna will also remain committed to the sport and the snowboard industry, the international markets of
Support Burton and advocate for more diversity on the mountain as well as in meeting spaces worldwide.

"It is one of the greatest honors of my life to have won the trust of Jake, Donna and the Board of Directors to become CEO of Burton," said John Lacy. "Enabling the company to usher in the next era for Burton will continue to be my primary focus. Working closely with Donna and her sons to protect the legacy of this unique brand and the sport we all hold so dear will be a privilege. The future for Burton is bright and you can feel the commitment and energy of all the employees to build on what Jake started."
