Tecnica Magma: An exceptional outdoor shoe

The Tecnica Magma is a visual highlight. Especially the sole with the profile of an enduro mountain bike tire stands out and provides superior grip.

Already when I received the press release, I looked several times, because the shoe immediately caught my eye positively: The look was unique. In particular, the newly designed sole caught my eye. But much of what appears so beautifully presented in the brochure often turns out in reality to be a modest version of the studio pictures. Not so with the Magma from Tecnica. The photos keep what they promise, because I had a pair come to test and was positively surprised.

Optical highlight
Already when unpacking, I was excited about what would await me. But this already started my enthusiasm, because the shoe kept what its press pictures promised. It is visually a real highlight. My model, the Magma S MS Rich Lava-Black, i.e. in "lava" red, is an eye-catcher. This starts with a convincing basic shape and ends with an impressive sole, which you also do not see every day and which is pulled on the side up into the upper shoe, obercool! The design of this shoe convinces all along the line and will be important in the sale, because for probably most buyers the design will be more important than the built-in technologies. A high level of functionality is often simply taken for granted.

Extraordinary sole
About the sole Tecnica tells us that the developers were inspired by an enduro MTB tire. The sole is equipped with Vibram Litebase technology and the rubber compound Vibram Megagrip, which scored with an above-average grip in the test in nature but also in everyday life. In the heel area, Tecnica attached importance to the fact that the sole is particularly wide, in order to increase stability when running and to ensure controlled braking when descending. With the sole Tecnica takes the cake. Class made!

Supporting upper shoe
The upper shoe fits snugly on the foot and supports the foot during hiking and running. At the same time, the sports retailer can still customize the upper shoe in the heel to ball of the foot area. Tecnica calls the whole thing "CAS - Custom Adaptive Shape". The very sophisticated and fine lacing speaks for a well thought-out outdoor shoe concept. If I understood Damian Dutly, Head of Sales and Marketing of Tecnica Group Switzerland, correctly, the model is available with or without Gore-Tex, depending on whether protection against moisture is important to you. Price difference CHF 30.00, CHF 169.00 or CHF 199.00. I tested the model without Gore-Tex and did not miss it. The shoe is rather a bit narrow cut and fits tight especially for people with wide and strongly built feet. When rolling the foot, I felt at the beginning, as the shoe buckled a little unaccustomed close to the toes, but this passed after a few days. Nevertheless, one should pay attention to it in the store during the fitting and address the specialist dealer on it.

Conclusion
Overall, the Tecnica Magma is a versatile and high-quality outdoor shoe that is ideal for trail running, hiking and everyday wear. It impresses with a great look, a fabulous sole technology and an attractive price. I can highly recommend the shoe.
