Ski regions: 4 insider tips for your ski vacations

Those who prefer to spend their winter vacations away from the big hustle and bustle of Sölden, Saas Fee & Co. will find varied winter sports fun in many a snow-covered village. Small but fine ski resorts still leave room in the budget and offer the seclusion and tranquility that many people long for. Away from the big ski centers and towards tranquility. Here you will find secluded ski lifts, manageable ski slopes, friendly staff and winter sports at affordable prices. Here, skiing is done differently.

Beautiful skiing vacations with a feel-good factor can be spent not only in Davos, St Moritz or St Anton. There may not be any chic luxury hotels with classy hood restaurants waiting for guests in smaller ski resorts, but they do offer the peace and relaxation that many look for in vain in the big ski regions. Large ski resorts like to impress their guests with their huge network of slopes and facilities. But hand on heart, who actually uses this network as a skier? In truth, almost no one. Who would want to play explorer and explore every ski area of a vacation region and ski every slope once. Most of us always use the same lifts and slopes, even in large ski regions, because we know them and if we like it, we stay. Why change if you like it? Who hasn't had the experience of going to a new lift in search of new slopes in a region that they know, only to leave disillusioned.

On the following pages we present a few ski regions that are considered insider tips and offer skiers what large regions do not.
