Castles in the Swiss Sailing Challenge League in Davos

After the first round of the Challenge League, the Zurich clubs had a good laugh as they were in the top two places. For them, the second event of the year in Davos was all about maintaining their places. The clubs from Lake Constance, on the other hand, were at the bottom of the Challenge League. They had to give everything to avoid the risk of being relegated to the Promotion League.

Winner of the races of August 24 and 25, 2019 on Lake Davos was impressively Cercle de la Voile Vevey-la-Tour, which confidently took the lead and safely sailed home the victory of Act II of the Challenge League with helmsman Wolf Cauwenberghe. This clear victory lifted the club from 6th to 2nd intermediate place in the Table and secures him promotion to the Sailing Super League with another successful race at the final event in Spiez, September 13-15, 2019.

The sailors from the Bottighofen sailing association were similarly ambitious. They fought successfully against the relegation at the weekend and could make up for the defeat of the first race with an excellent 3rd place. The efforts are now thanked with the 8th intermediate rank, with which the danger of relegation could now be clearly banished again.

Disillusionment must have set in at the Thalwil Sailing Association and especially at the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano. Mara Bezel from the Thalwil Sailing Association (SVT) showed herself in the Interview from August 12, 2019 on the upcoming races already correspondingly cautious about their excellent 2nd place in the standings and the future placement. The weekend was disappointing for the Luganesi, who fell to 11th place in the standings thanks to a penultimate place in the race and are now in danger of being relegated after the next race if they do not improve significantly by then. The situation seems almost hopeless for the yacht club Kreuzlingen, which sealed with the final place at the race in Davos now the last place in the table and which almost only a miracle can save from relegation.

The regattas on Lake Davos last weekend led to significant castles in the standings, which makes for an exciting starting position at the last race in Spiez, which could turn into a real sailing thriller.
