Pinarello Nytro: Super Light & Super Beautiful

Road bikes must be light, after all, they are created to develop the highest possible speed on the road. Minimizing weight is an important prerequisite for this. It is precisely this weight problem that has so far stood in the way of the design and marketing of racing bikes with electric motors. Now the Pinarello racing stall forge from Treviso, Italy, has managed to construct a lightweight e-road bike and paired this with its distinctive design.

by Rolf Fleckenstein

The idea of launching an electric road bike is not new. The idea has practically existed since people started equipping bikes with electric motors and selling them as e-bikes. Many have tried their hand at it, but none of the e-racing bikes to date have been convincing.

The reason for this is the internal contradiction with the concept of the road bike. Road bikes were created to achieve top speeds on a bicycle. To do that, they have to be light, preferably ultralight - a few kilos light - and they have to be designed so that you can get everything out of the bike. But that's exactly what e-bikes never are. Simply because of the electric motor, the bikes are already several kilos heavier; minimum weight is a utopia. And then there was probably hardly a racing bike equipped with a motor for 45 km/h. The legal requirements regarding signage, rear view mirrors, etc. seem to be a deterrent. In addition, it must be admitted that previously produced e-racing bikes never, ever came close to the slim sporty design of racing bikes, because a slim racing bike with a block on the down tube is just not slim and sporty. You could twist and turn it as you wanted, you could not be happy with any of the previous models.

Pinarello: Strong design
Now none other than the Italian racing team Pinarello has taken on the task. Those to whom the name Pinarello actually means nothing are reminded that the Italian manufacturer from the Venetian town of Treviso equips Team Sky of the UCI World Tour with racing bikes with which Christopher Froome and his teammates whiz across the finish line. Even those who are not interested in racing bikes will be thrilled by the fabulous design of a Pinarello racing bike.

Pinarello Nytro
It is therefore not particularly surprising that Pinarello has built the most beautiful road bike with electric motor to date with its new eRoad model Nytro. The Italian manufacturer wants to appeal to customers who dream of going on a road bike tour but don't feel fit enough to do so. Climbs should become easier, downhill...
