Michael Matt is being equipped for the new season by Blizzard-Tecnica

Austrian slalom specialist Michael Matt will compete in the next World Cup season with Blizzard skis and Tecnica ski boots. The new partnership is celebrating its debut on home snow: the first slalom of the 2023-24 season is planned for November 18th in Gurgl.

The skis that Matt's fans will see on his feet in the future come from the Austrian brand Blizzard and are “handmade in Austria”. They are manufactured just a few hundred kilometers away in Mittersill, the traditional Blizzard factory and today's Tecnica Group Ski Excellence Center.

30-year-old Michael Matt has two Olympic medals to his name in his career, which he won in Pyeongchang in 2018 - silver in the team competition and bronze in the slalom. He has also already won two silver medals at the 2019 World Championships in Åre and seven podium places in the World Cup.

The two-year contract signed at the beginning of June is an important step in the ambitious plan to relaunch the Blizzard Tecnica Racing Team for the coming season. After the announcements of the past few months, the signing of an athlete like Matt is a strong signal, as Jörg Rüdl, Tecnica Group Racing Business Manager, confirms:

“I am very pleased to welcome Michi Matt to our team. It's a welcome return for all of us, as he began his ski adventure at a young age at Blizzard. We have set ourselves big goals together in the World Cup. Michi has already had several opportunities to test the material and is continuing his preparation in South America. The goal is to arrive at the debut in November with a perfect feel for the skis and boots.”

In order to achieve this goal, Matt has access to not only the material but also a dedicated service. Mario Hausberger, a professional with more than ten years of experience with athletes like Myhrer and Dopfer explains: “We want to put him in a position to always give his best. He is also an experienced athlete and his feedback on the material will be very helpful for our race team. During the months of testing on various terrains, we have already seen how carefully and meticulously Michi works.”

Michael Matt confirms:

“I am very happy to be back on the Blizzard Tecnica team. I’m familiarizing myself with the new material and looking forward to achieving good results next season.”
