Lindsey Vonn is the most successful female alpine ski racer in history. With a total of 82 World Cup victories, she set a new record for women, and with eight downhill World Cup titles, she holds a record for both women and men. Her sometimes overwhelming dominance in the speed disciplines (downhill and Super-G) shaped an entire World Cup generation, but as successful as she was in the World Cup, she suffered setbacks at major events like the World Championships and the Olympics. She frequently fell victim to knee injuries and depression, which derailed her career. She must have been all the more delighted when she competed in her last race on February 10, 2019, at the World Championship downhill in Åre, Sweden, winning the bronze medal. But today we must say it was her penultimate race, because in 2024, despite her age, she decided to make a comeback.
