Jan Kovar remains with EVZ until 2023

The Czech national striker has extended his contract by three more years.

Jan Kovar joined the EVZ this season on a one-year contract, where he is now one of the key players. Now the forward, who turns 30 on March 20, has decided to continue his career in Zug and extend his contract by three years. "Everything is great here, the team, the whole organization, the league, the fans, the quality of life - and also my family feels one hundred percent comfortable. I'm looking forward to going into the future with this ambitious club," said the world-class center, explaining his commitment to the EVZ. The contract includes an exit clause for the KHL, which Jan Kovar could make use of at the end of the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons respectively.

Reto Kläy, General Manager Sport, is glad that Jan Kovar decided for the EVZ, although several clubs from the financially strong KHL made intensive efforts to find him. "Jan is one of the best centers in Europe. He is an absolute team leader, a strong goal scorer and present all over the ice. In addition, he also plays an important role in the dressing room. He has met all expectations and will continue to be a cornerstone of our team in the coming years."

Jan Kovar has been part of the Czech national team since 2013 and has already won three titles at club level: in 2013 with Pilsen in the Czech Extraliga, and in 2014 and 2016 with Magnitogorsk in the KHL. In the Russian league, he produced 377 scoring points in 368 games. For the EVZ, he has already scored 41 points in 44 games this season.
