French Open 2023: Medvedev eliminated

Daniil Medvedev, No. 2 in the world rankings, is defeated in the first round by no-name Thiago Seyboth Wild. This means that a crown favorite is eliminated early from the Grand Slam tournament in Roland Garros.

Today, determination, self-confidence and a refreshing carefreeness won out over sovereignty, precision and experience. The number 172 of the ATP world ranking list, the Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild had nothing to lose today, when he played against Daniil Medvedev, the current number 2 of the world ranking list. There was certainly a touch of luck involved today. The decisive factor was probably the fact that the Brazilian surprisingly won the first set 7-6 in a match that was evenly contested for long stretches. That was certainly a key moment for the young player, which gave him a boost and made him believe in a possible victory. Even the fact that Medvedev won the again close second set did not change anything. Seyboth Wild continued to serve carefree with the pinch of purpose and determination needed to win today. Medvedev tried to take the match and won the third set clearly 2:6, but this did not impress the Brazilian too much, who took the fourth set 6:3 in return. But now the young no-name player had the momentum on his side. The Brazilian closed out another tight set with a clear winner at 5:4, 40:30, winning the match to his own surprise. With this, he was one of the crown favorites out of the tournament early.
