Finnish striker joins EV Zug

New Finnish striker for the EVZ

Erik Thorell (27), top scorer for Finnish top club HIFK Helsinki, has signed a two-year contract in Zug.

The winger, who is only 27 years old (date of birth: March 3, 1992), comes from the youth section of the traditional Swedish club Färjestad BK, with whom he made his debut in the top league as an 18-year-old in 2010 and celebrated the championship title in 2011. For the last three years he played in Finland, first for Turku, the last two seasons for HIFK Helsinki. In Helsinki, he was the team's top scorer twice in a row with 55 points. After finishing sixth and fifth in the regular season, the team was defeated by Kärpät Oulu in the playoff semifinals.

Erik Thorell is 178 cm tall and weighs 81 kg. He is considered a hard-playing power winger and a team player with above-average running skills and an exemplary attitude. "With his character, speed, intense play and finishing qualities, he fits our requirements profile perfectly," says sporting director Reto Kläy, delighted with the signing of the striker, who was U20 World Champion with Sweden in 2012.
