Dakar Rally 2020: 12th stage

Now the 12th and last stage awaits the participants of the Dakar Rally 2020, which leads over 447 km from Haradh to Quiddiyah. Among the bikers and the cars, the leaders have a clear lead. If they don't break down and their competitors don't have a miracle run, they should win the title.

Among the bikers, American Ricky Brabec has a comfortable lead of around 14 minutes over second-placed Pablo Quintanilla. Unless Brabec messes up or has a breakdown, Quintanilla will hardly be able to take more than 14 minutes off him today. Brabec can actually take it easy and safely, Quintanilla on the other hand has to ride like the devil is chasing him, not good conditions for Brabec's chaser. But Brabec does not dream of backing down, he continues to drive to victory and today takes the second stage place and thus the overall victory at the Dakar Rally 2020 of both categories motorcycle. Ricky Brabec's victory not only marks the first time an American has won the Dakar Rally, but also breaks KTM's 18-year winning streak and gives Honda its first Dakar Rally win since 1989.

"In the end we put the pieces of the puzzle together, it's quite an achievement for America, for Honda and the whole team. I got goosebumps in the last 30km, the bike worked really well and I'm really happy, really happy."

commented American Ricky Brabec on his victory of the 2020 Dakar Rally in the motorcycle class.

Joining him on the podium are Chile's Pablo Quintanilla, who takes second place with plenty of power and determination, and last year's winner Toby Price from Australia in third place, who has been on the podium five times in the six Dakar rallies so far.

The situation in the cars is also clear: Carlos Sainz leads with a comfortable advantage of more than 10 minutes over Nasser Al-Attiyah. The duel between Al-Attiyah and Peterhansel is more exciting, as the Frenchman is only 6 seconds behind the Qatari. This will be exciting once again! For Fernando Alonso today's stage ends with a strong fourth place, which in the end secures him the 13th place at the Dakar Rally 2020. For the debut of the ex-Formula 1 world champion, the performance is certainly respectable, even if you can tell that he believed in higher goals. For Saudi Yazeed Al Rajhi, a small dream is certainly coming true, as he clinches fourth place overall and thus the best place ever achieved by a Saudi in a Dakar. Stéphane Peterhansel manages to take some time off the leader Carlos Sainz again today, but with today's fifth stage place he can do nothing against today's stage winner Nasser Al-Attiyah, who wins the first stage at the 2020 Dakar Rally and who now definitely relegates Peterhansel to third place in the rankings. Two years after his last victory at the Dakar Rally, Carlos Sainz once again takes victory in the legendary desert race in the new decade and on the new continent.

"We are delighted to give this victory to Spain, delighted to win this Dakar Rally 2020, with another car, with this Mini, which worked perfectly",

commented three-time Dakar winner Carlos Sainz on his victory this year at the 2020 Dakar Rally.

The big three veterans, the "old hands" Stéphane Peterhansel, Nasser Al-Attiyah and Carlos Sainz deservedly share the podium of the 2020 Dakar Rally.
