Dakar Rally 2015 - 13th stage

A total of 216 participants managed to reach the finish line this year and finish the Dakar. There were 420 vehicles that started, and in the end there were still 79 motorcycles, 18 quads, 68 cars and 51 trucks. Almost half of the field of riders did not make it. Among the bikers, Marc Coma won his 5th Dakar title, equaling Cyril Despres, and among the cars, Nasser Al-Attiyah deservedly celebrated his second Dakar victory after dominating the entire rally. In the Quads, Rafal Sonik from Poland celebrates the victory and four consecutive top 5 finishes in the Dakar and in the Trucks, the Kamaz drivers show their usual strong side. The Russians are the undisputed leaders in the Trucks and the neck-and-neck race between Ayrat Mardeev and Eduard Nikolaev this year makes Mardeev ahead of his two compatriots; the podium in the Trucks this year is firmly in the hands of the Russians.

Cars

Orlando Terranova starts first into the final stage of the 2015 Dakar Rally. The special stage that awaits the competitors today will be shortened due to heavy rain. Emiliano Spataro is the first to take the lead of the stage, which has been shrunk to 34 km, three seconds ahead of Orlando Terranova. Nasser Al-Attiyah takes third place today, winning the Dakar Rally for the second time in the cars. The Qatari has dominated the entire rally in the car category and rightly takes the title. The winner of today's stage is American Robby Gordon ahead of South African Leeroy Poulter.

Bikes

With a lead of 17 minutes over Paulo Gonçalves, Marc Coma starts this last day to complete the last special stage of 174 km, because he doesn't want to give away his victory, which is within reach, by making a stupid mistake.

Currently there are still 7 riders in the Malles-Moto category: the amateurs take part in the Dakar in the classic way, namely without assistance and help. Thomas Berglund leads this category and is in an excellent 23rd place overall.

The start today is in the reverse order. Mongolian Anar Chinabataar is the last in the overall classification, but the first to open this last stage. In the same way the other riders start. At the first checkpoint the first 20 riders are through and give an unusual picture: the last are first. At kilometer 34 Laurent Lazard leads ahead of Melchior van Heertum.

The Pole Jakub Przygonski is already standing around 2 kilometers after the start and has to fight with mechanical problems. The 18th overall wants only one thing today: to finish! Joan Barreda and Helder Rodrigues are also standing around near the start. They are waiting for Paulo Gonçalves to escort and support the Honda rider should he run into problems on the final stage.

The rain makes this stage very slippery. Many riders come together in groups to fight the rigors of the weather and support each other. They ride slowly. After the rain gets heavier and heavier, the Dakar becomes not only very slippery for the Moro cyclists, but also really dangerous. That is why the organizers decided to stop the race at Checkpoint 2 after 101 km. Ivan Jakes from Slovakia was already in the lead at checkpoint 1 and was the fastest to pass checkpoint 2, winning the stage. The overall leaders arrive at Checkpoint 2 one by one and everyone waits for the leader Marc Coma, who wins the Dakar for the 5th time and shares the podium with the Spaniard Paulo Gonçalves and the Australian Toby Price.

Quads

In the quads, 18 riders are left to make their way to the finish. At Checkpoint 1, Christophe Declerck is the fastest through, ahead of Nelson Sanabria and Daniel Domaszewski. At the end of the stage, Declerck is only beaten by the stage winner, South African Willem Saaijman. For Rafal Sonik from Poland a dream comes true today. With his 8th place on today's final stage, he takes the Dakar title for the first time after always finishing in the top 5 over the last six years and twice finishing third on the podium.

Trucks

The Dutchman Hans Stacey, who won the first two stages, wants to know it again on this last race day and gives full throttle. In the end, he takes the stage win ahead of his countryman Marcel Van Vliet, but he is denied a top 3 position in the overall classification, as these positions are firmly in the hands of the Russians, who are driving Kamaz. Ayrat Mardeev wins his first Dakar in front of his compatriots Eduard Nikolaev and Andrey Karginov. The podium is 100% in Russian hands, an impressive performance.
